Annual Report for the Year 2007 – 2008:
It is a glory indeed that S.I.E.S high school celebrates the “Platinum Jublee” marking 75 years of its existence. In these 75 years we have seen our institution grow from strength to strength and metamorphose into an elite school in Matunga, standing as the cynosure of all eyes.

Our students are extremely privileged to avail facility of well equipped laboratory, sports galleria, computer laboratory, audio visual room & so on.

Also, we intend to open a gymnasium for our students in the near future. We thank the management, staff and all concerned personnel who have helped in the continued growth of this institution.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE YEAR 2007-08
1. SSC Board Examination-March 2007

We secured a reasonably good 87.40% with 64 distinctions, 82 first classes and 68 second classes. Master Sankalp Krishnan secured 92.61% standing first, Master Rahul Ravi scored 92.00% standing second and Kumari Mahalaxmi.S scored (91.38%) standing third.

2. Inauguration of Literary, Cultural, Sports association& Sciema club  and celebration of Independence day.

The literary, cultural, sports associations & sciema club was inaugurated on 15th August. Mr.Venkatraman and Mrs.Arundati Venkatraman & Dr.V.Ananthakrishnan graced the occasion. We thank the S.I.E.S ex-students Association for organizing a grand function and felicitating the meritorious students and also granting endowments to the poor & deserving students of SSC examination March 2007

Celebrations

Teachers’ day, Republic day and festivals like Ganesh Chathurthi, Saraswati Puja and Dassera were celebrated. Girl child day was celebrated on 3rd January 2008 with a lot of informative & entertaining programmes for girls.

DISHA-an annual career fair was organized by SIES college of Commerce in which 420 students of std.8th, 9th & 10th were given aptitude tests & seminar.

PRAYOG- an exhibition on science, technology & Society was organized by SIES College of Science. Students of std.8th, 9th & 10th visited the exhibition..

SIES College of Management Studies, Nerul, organized painting & Essay Competition. 50 students participated in the above competition.

Workshop for teachers: Seven teachers attended a workshop on “Improving spoken English skills” from December 24th to Dec 29th conducted by Greater India Friendship Trust.

A Workshop Titled “ Improvement in teaching methods on English Grammer” was conducted by our Supervisor Mrs. Geeta Venkat & one of our Teacher Mrs. Sera Mascarenhas for three days.

4. Scholarships & Competitions
 

Drawing: 26 students appeared for elementary and 09 students for intermediate drawing examination conducted by the Government of Maharastra in 2007. Manish Thakur of VIII C secured ‘A’Grade. We thank Mrs.Shubhangi Phadke and Mrs. Geeta Grawli our drawing teachers for training the students.

 

Marathi: In the Brihan Mumbai Nimnasthar Marathi Examination of 2007

  • Sanidya Mahekar of VI A stood 2nd at Mumbai level
  • Anand Devadiga of VI F stood 3rd.

We thank Mrs. Ujwala Prayagi and Mrs. Malini Biwalkar for training the students.

Govt. Scholarship exam 2008: 33 students are to appear. In 2007

  • Tanmayee Kher stood 2nd
  • Arun Natarajan stood 17th
  • Sonu Antony stood 47th.
  • Anubin Shaji stood 55th and
  • Vikmani Sagar of VIII C stood 61st.

We thank our Assistant head Mistress Mrs, Bharti Shankar, Mrs.Sujata Srinivasan, Mrs. Sangeeta Rao & Mrs. Kantimati for training the students.

Science: Dr.Homi Bhabha Bal Vaigyanik Competitive examination –78 students of std’s 6th & 9th appeared

    • 5 students of std.IX, 39 students of std. VI qualified for certificates.
    • Manoj Arvind of VI B Sairaj C of VI F qualified for practicals.

    Mathematics: “ All India Open Mathematics Scholarship examination conducted by Institute for Promotion of Mathematics

      • 34 students appeared
      • In 2007, Tanmayee Kher stood 7th in Mumbai

      Picnic: Std’s V & VI were taken to “Tiku-ji-ni-wadi”, Thane
                  Std’s VII, VIII & X were taken to “Water kingdom”, Gorai
                  Std. IX were taken to “Suraj Water Park”, Thane

        • Gandhi Smarak Nidhi- Sanjeev Joshi of VI A received consolation prize in Marathi elocution

SPORTS ACHIEVEMENTS

National Level Badminton Championship organized by School Games Federation of India –Under 14 girls.
Riya Pillai – VIII E won 3rd prize in the individual event. She also won 2nd prize in Team Championship

Badminton Competition organized by Mumbai School Sports Association
Riya Pillai – VIII E, Renu Verghese VIII E, Jincy Kutty VIII D won first prize in under 14 girls.

Taekwondo organized by District Sports Officer, Mumbai
i) Kaustubh Chavan – VI/C - won gold medal in under 14 boys  & was qualified for Mumbai Division level.
ii) Arun Gupta -  VI/D -  and Balaji Pillai of VI E won Silver medal in under 14 boys
iii) Pooja Iyer - V/E -  won Silver medal in under 14 girls
iv) Essak Olympisa -  IX/ D -  won Bronze medal in under 17 boys.

 

Yoga Competition organized by District Sports Officer, Mumbai
i) Vikas Gupta – VII B stood 5th in under 14 boys
ii) Venkatesh Murugan – IX E stood 6th in under 17 boys and was qualified for Mumbai division level

 

Boxing competitions organized by District Sports Officer, Mumbai
i) Sundar – VII C & Faiyaz – VII D won Silver medal in under 14 and under 17 boys respectively.
ii) Faiyaz Khan & Konar Sundaram secured 1st & 2nd place respectively in Inter school Boxing Championship organized by Mumbai School Sports Association.

 

Carrom Competition organized by 3rd Mumbai Suburban District Carrom Ranking Tournament
i) Sahil Patil was ranked 4th in under 14 boys.

 

Harris Shield Cricket Tournament organized by Mumbai School Sports Association     (MSSA)
In a two days match our school team was qualified for quarterfinals. The team of students is

In the 43rd “R.N.Utchil Memorial Athletic Meet 2007” organized by Jai Hind Sports Club, Kunal Utchal of IX E secured 3rd place both in 100 m & 200 m running in under 15 boys – long jump –3rd.

 

Basketball Tournament organized by Maharastra State Basket Ball Association held at Kolhapur

  • Samyuktha Swaminathan - X /C

- were selected from our school to represent Mumbai Central district
- Archana Gupta of X A has been selected for Maharastra Nationals.
